7 pm, Speaker Sophie Chandauka MBE – Library Learning Commons

One of Lake Superior State University’s most distinguished graduates, Sophie Chandauka MBE, will speak on Oct. 20 about her successful career in law and business, offering advice to area students and others on how to succeed in today’s complex professional market.

Her talk, “The Power and Attributes for Career Success in a Global Hybrid World: A Remarkable International Career—from the Soo to Wall Street and Big Tech,” will be presented at 7 PM in the Kenneth J. Shouldice Library and is free and open to students, alumni, and the general public. Click here to learn more about Sophie.

Friday, October 21

10 am – 4 pm, Welcome Center – Lukenda Alumni House
Stop by any time during our hours to pick up information about the weekend. This is an opportunity to visit with other attendees in a social setting and for us to welcome you to campus.

12 pm – 4 pm, Campus Duck Hunt – LSSU Campus
Search for rubber ducks for a chance to win prizes. Ducks will be hidden in the common areas of the CAS building, Crawford, Considine, Library, Cisler Center, Arts Center and the Norris Center.

2 pm, Laker Volleyball vs Purdue Northwest – Bud Cooper Gymnasium
Tickets are available at the door ($10 adults, $8 senior, $6 children 17 & under). Tickets can also be purchased online at https://lssulakerstickets.universitytickets.com/w/default.aspx 

4 pm, Alumni Awards Reception & Ceremony – Cisler Center – Superior Room
We will recognize some of LSSU’s most accomplished alumni in the Superior Room at Cisler Center. Tickets are $10. Reception begins at 4 pm and program at 4:30 pm. Reservations required. Read about the recipients in the latest Laker Log (lakerlog.lssu.edu).

4 pm – 6 pm, Parents’ Happy Hour – Live Music – Cisler Plaza/Galley
Enjoy a beverage at The Galley in the Cisler Center while listening to live music by Tyler Detloff, before the puck drops.

7 pm, Laker Hockey vs U of M – Taffy Abel Arena
Tickets are available at the door ($22 adults, $14 children 17 & under). First intermission will feature on-ice introductions of the alumni award recipients. Tickets can also be purchased online at https://lssulakerstickets.universitytickets.com/w/default.aspx 

10 pm, Post-game Fireworks – Cisler Center Plaza
Following the game there will be a social with a cash bar in the Galley of the lower level of the Cisler Center. When the timing is right, a fireworks display will light up the sky to celebrate GLSW.

Saturday, October 22

9 am, GLSW 5k Fun Run – Norris Center
Join in the fun on Great Lake State Weekend and participate in the KINS Club 5k Fun Walk/Run. Get your photo with Seamore, ring the Victory Bell upon completion of the race and win one of the many door prizes donated by our wonderful sponsors. Medals will be provided for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers for men and for women. The cost is $20.00 if registered prior to race day and $25.00 to register on the day of the race. Lake Superior State University will be hosting an open house featuring campus and experiential lab tours, academic information, campus life highlights, and a preview of your life at Lake State!

The following tours will begin from the Huron Room in Cisler at noon:
Aquaponics Lab, Barch Center for Freshwater Research and Education, Cannabis Center for Excellence featuring Agilent Technologies and Lion Labs Institute for Cannabis Processing, Kinesiology Lab, Nursing Simulation Center, Robotics Lab.

12 pm – 2 pm, Community Graffiti – Pleger Commons
Visitors can leave their mark on a large canvas to commemorate GLSW 2022. The canvas will be displayed on campus.

12 pm – 2 pm, Oozeball (Volleyball in the mud) – Pleger Commons
Teams will compete for the coveted Oozeball trophy and bragging rights for the year. Oozeball is a 3-on-3 volleyball tournament played in mud. You will not want to miss this opportunity to compete with and against your classmates, coworkers and friends. Oozeball is open to all students, faculty/staff, alumni, and university friends/family/community members. You can have up to 5 members on a team. Laker Leaders, hosted by CAMP LSSU, will have academic activities and experiments planned for Great Lake State Weekend for kids ages 6-14 years old. This camp will run from 1pm to 4pm on October 22, 2022.
