Richard Lee Amble ‘69, Brimley, died April 26 at his home surrounded by family. Richard was a teacher at Brimley Area Schools as well as a football, basketball, and cross-country coach before retiring in 2006. Coach Amble will always be remembered for his stories and jokes, but more so for his love of athletics and his love for kids. He was 74. James Beedy ‘61, Sault Ste Marie, died unexpectedly February 20 at home. He worked at Edison Sault Electric Company until retiring in 1998 as vice president. James enjoyed gardening, attending auctions, building things, and spending time with his family. He was 73. Patricia Bosbous ’75, Elm Grove, Wisc., 58, died June 24 surrounded by family. Her vivacious, larger-than-life personality, always-smiling face and unyielding generosity touched the lives of many. David Fedderson ’70, Coventry Conn., died March 24. He was 65. He was happily married to Judy Terrian Fedderson ’70 for many years. Joseph Haller ’71, Sault Ste Marie, 80, died June 10 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. The Korean War veteran, who served with the National Guard 1437th unit out of Sault Ste. Marie, was wounded and left paralyzed from the waist down. In spite of his disability, he graduated from LSSU and then MSU with a master’s degree in social work. He worked for the State of Michigan for many years and was a founding member

of the Chippewa County Shooting Association. Gwen Holdsworth ’70, Brimley, died Feb. 8. She was 60. Gwen was the GED coordinator at Bay Mills Community College who viewed it as her mission to help her students succeed. She also served hundreds of children in her nursery school program and local Young 4s program. Joseph Enos Kishego ’48, Harbor Springs, died on May 3 surrounded by his wife and family. Joe was very active in his tribal community as a citizen and respected elder of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. He participated in LSSU’s commencement exercises as a Golden Graduate for the last several years, including the 2012 ceremony one week before he died. He was 87. Verna Lawrence, Sault Ste. Marie, died Nov. 9, 2011. Lawrence, 82, served the community of Sault Ste. Marie as city commissioner and mayor for more than 32 years, as well as holding other public positions. She was the first female mayor of Sault Ste. Marie. She was known as a dedicated advocate for the ordinary citizen of Sault Ste. Marie, but her actions went beyond the Eastern Upper Peninsula. She and friend Verna Mize worked with congressmen of Michigan’s 11th Congressional District to stop dumping of iron ore tailings in Lake Superior. At her funeral, longtime friend and LSSU Professor James Moody gave her eulogy.
Janice Dee Louthan ’63, Livermore, died of cancer on May 12. Jan was one of 35 women to attend Sault Tech in the late 1950s. She earned a bachelor’s degree and then master’s degree in teaching. She was 67. Denise Marie (Kujat) Mahlmeister ’75, Mackinaw City, died at home on June 26. A beautiful person inside and out, Denise never met a stranger in her life. She was very involved in community organizations. She was 57. Max Martin Mackie, Rudyard, was killed in a bicycle accident July 7. He was 85. An engineer, he served as an aircraft mechanic with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, when he was stationed in the Philippines. Alistair McKay ’03, Sault Ste Marie, died April 5. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Alistair came to America with his parents as a baby. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and enjoyed an accomplished career for 20 years, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was 61. John Milton Menard ’53, Sugar Island, died May 23 at his home. John served in the U.S. Navy as an electronic tech from 1948-1953. He was 80. Wendy Sak ’98, Lake Ann, 35, died suddenly as the result of an automobile accident May 19. She was a major account executive for Charter Business. She achieved the rank of Certified Administrative Professional and won the Lochen Health 40 Under 40 award for her service to the
